Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Safes

Colorado Safe Company is committed to providing the strongest safes on the market at the best price in the industry. We are also dedicated to excellent customer service and, ultimately, your satisfaction. To that end, listed below are answers to some questions that are frequently asked about our safes. If you have other questions that aren't answered here, feel free to call us toll-free at 844-926-7233.

Q. Why do you list the weight of your safes?

A. Most people purchase a safe primarily for protection from theft, and weight is an important factor for theft protection. When thieves break into a home or business, their goal is to take as much as they can as quickly as possible before the owner returns or police arrive. Thieves typically won’t spend time trying to break into a safe at the location of the theft. However, they will take a safe with them (if they can) and work to break into it later. The heavier a safe is, the less likely that they will be able to quickly or easily remove it from your home or business.

Q. Does my safe need to be bolted down?

A. The answer to this is similar to the previous question’s answer. Since most thieves won’t attempt to break into a safe during the actual theft, bolting the safe to the floor from the inside adds an extra level of security, helping to ensure that the safe won’t be removed from the premises.

Q. What are the advantages of the EMP-Proof lock that you offer as an option for your safes?

A. The EMP-proof lock, which is available as an option on all of our safes, adds a second method of opening your safe should an electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) disable the normal electronic push-button code access.

Q. What level of fire protection should I insist upon when choosing a safe?

A. To answer this question, we must ask another question. Where will the safe reside? For the majority of people who live in a metropolitan area with full-time local fire departments, fire protection rated at 60 minutes is generally more than adequate. If you live in a location where the fire department might not be able to reach you quickly, you may want to consider a safe with greater protection.

Q. When I purchase my safe, can I move and install it myself?

A. For your own safety, we strongly recommend that you employ the services of Colorado Safe Company or another security company that is accustomed to moving large safes. The safes we make are heavy and do not have edges that are easy to grip when moving. While these factors make your safe less likely to be stolen, they also make it somewhat hazardous to move. Professional security companies will also have knowledge of special considerations for placement and installation of your safe. Depending on where you are located, Colorado Safe Company can professionally move and install your safe or recommend another local security company for this task.
